Deep Roots & New Growth in Wabaunsee County

The Volland Store of Alma selected for Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit.

The Smithsonian Institute selected The Volland Store as one of only 6 locations to host the Crossroads: Change in Rural America exhibit, going on now from March 13th to April 25th, 2021. In order to keep attendance manageable for Covid-19 measures, the location is requiring reservations to visit the exhibit in person. Reservations can be made here.

The Volland Store has also curated an accompanying exhibit to the Smithsonian’s; Deep Roots and New Growth in Wabaunsee County. You can learn more about Wabaunsee County—explore the area, learn more about the Tallgrass Prairie and ranching, and even learn a little more on healthy moving with a sponsored yoga event.

Of particular interest to the EPF, The Volland Store has featured a piece on Commitment to Community: Community Builders in Wabaunsee County. Check that exhibit out here. You’ll find the Eskridge Park Foundation’s Bruce Waugh and Annie Compton featured as leaders in the community. Take a look through the whole list—I’m willing to bet you’ll find several familiar faces there!!

We are honored to be featured and recognized for the efforts we have put in. Most of all, it is so inspiring to see how many Wabaunsee County folks (and so many more than just those shown) want to do the best they can for their community. It is a universal recognition that we choose to live rurally because we love this way of life and want it to continue on for our future generations.
